As moms, it can be difficult to get our daily Bible reading and devotions. But a great devotional Bible for moms makes it easier! Here is a side-by-side comparison of my two favorites.

Spending time in the Word as a busy mom can be a challenge. Many mornings, I’ve read my Bible in between fixing breakfasts, nursing a baby, and taking my 3-year-old potty.

But no matter how busy our schedule is or what’s on our agenda, it’s important to carve out space in our morning routines for daily Bible reading.
I’ve never been a big devotional kind of girl. They always felt too quick to me. I wanted meat and depth, and I usually schedule longer than a few minutes to read in the mornings.
So I wasn’t really interested in a “one-minute” devotional or a devotional for “moms-on-the-go” or something of that sort.
But I started to realize that I was spending a little too much time in my books (though they were awesome books) and not enough time in God’s Word.
So I decided to look for something that would get me into the Scriptures, but also give me a little boost of encouragement for the day.
My search led me to the Mom’s Devotional Bible, and it was perfect. The devotionals are bite-sized, so I always supplement them with a chapter in a book, but they encourage me to draw daily from God’s Word and show me how to apply them to my life as a mom.
Then, a couple of months ago, I had the opportunity to receive a free She Reads Truth Bible from B&H Publishing in exchange for a review. I had heard a lot of very positive things about She Reads Truth, so I eagerly accepted the opportunity.
I have been using it for the last two months in my personal Bible reading, and I think it’s a wonderful Bible for women.
Both Bibles have merits for moms looking to deepen their quiet times, but in very different ways. Either one would make a wonderful addition to your personal Bible study collection or a perfect gift for a mom you know.
But they are quite different from each other, so let me give you a full description of each — what’s in them and their pros and cons — so that you can make the right decision for you (or that special mom)!
Mom’s Devotional Bible
The Mom’s Devotional Bible is a daily devotional for moms interwoven through the full text of the NIV Bible. The devotionals are mostly written by Elisa Morgan, President Emerita of Mothers of Preschoolers International (MOPS), though some are written by other women, including Lysa TerKeurst, Shauna Niequist, Stormie Omartian, and other well-known authors.
Each devotional page includes a Scripture reading, a key verse, additional Scriptures for further study, and then the short devotional. Interspersed throughout the Bible are 12 full-color “More for Moms” pages that speak to a mother’s heart.
In addition to the Bible and devotions, there are also a few extra resources in the back. There are the basic features that you’ll find in most Bibles, like a table of weights and measures, a subject index, and a reading plan. But there are also some pretty cool added bonuses — like the Resource List for Moms and the Promises and Perspectives From the Bible (“What to Read When…”, “What the Bibles Says About…”).
I have the compact turquoise imitation leather style, but it also comes in pink imitation leather and hardcover.
PROS
- Size – I have the compact version, and I love it! It fits in my purse, so I can easily take it to church or anywhere I know I’m going to have some wait time (a great way to squeeze in extra Bible reading!).
- Daily devotions – This was one of the main reasons I got this Bible. I like that it has a devotional for every single day (M-F and one for the weekend), something that I missed when I switched to the She Reads Truth Bible.
- Promises and Perspectives from the Bible – I really love this appendix because it gives Scripture references for topics and concerns that are applicable to a mom’s life.
CONS
- No study notes – For my personal Bible study, I really like using study Bibles with study notes. They are so helpful when I need clarification, explanations, or additional context or information. So I missed that in this Bible.
- NIV – If I could have had my pick of translations, NIV is not what I would have chosen. If you haven’t heard by now, the more recent NIV translations have removed several Scripture passages. However, I was pleased to discover that this Bible includes those passages, though in a fainter italicized script.
- Small margins – This isn’t a big deal to me, as I take my notes in a separate journal or notebook, but if you like to journal or draw in your Bible, then you may want to consider the She Reads Truth Bible that I’m going to talk about next!
She Reads Truth Bible
The She Reads Truth Bible is a CSB Bible specifically geared towards women, and it also has devotionals and a reading plan. Unlike the Mom’s Devotional Bible, however, the devotionals are not daily, but rather come every few days.
There is a lot that comes in this Bible. In addition to the devotions, there are also 66 beautifully-designed key verses, 35 full-color timelines, 20 full-color maps, 11 full-color charts, reading plans for every book of the Bible, a one-year Bible reading plan, detailed book introductions, a key verse list, a topical index, quality binding, two colored ribbon markers, and wide margins for journaling and note-taking.
It is a beautiful Bible that comes in many different cover options, including gray linen, poppy linen, navy imitation leather, and brown genuine leather. It is definitely the most beautiful Bible I’ve ever owned.
PROS
- Style – This Bible is stunning, both inside and out, and definitely a keepsake Bible. It even comes in a case, which makes me feel extra fancy. 😉
- Additional Resources – I love all the extras in this Bible! My favorites so far are the book introductions and the maps and timelines.
- Wide margins – I am not a Bible journaler, but I know a lot of women who love it. This Bible would be perfect for them!
CONS
- No study notes – As I said above, I really prefer to do my personal Bible reading in a study Bible, and while this Bible has a few study resources here and there, I’m still missing the notes of a study Bible.
- Not a daily devotion – Unlike the Mom’s Devotional Bible, this Bible is not a daily devotional. The devotions only come every few days. So if you’re looking for a devotional Bible, this isn’t it. But if you love this Bible, you can always supplement with another daily devotional (I highly recommend Priscilla Shirer’s Awaken!)
- Going Deeper section is … not that deep – Each day in the reading plan has a “Going Deeper” section with a couple of Scripture references for further study. I have found them to be lacking and not really helpful for diving deeper into the Scriptures.
(Note: I received a free copy of the She Reads Truth Bible in exchange for my honest review. I was under no obligation to post a positive review, and all opinions are my own.)
As you can see, either Bible would be very beneficial to your or another mom’s daily walk with the Lord. The daily devotions and compact size of the Mom’s Devotional Bible are perfect for a busy mom-on-the-go. And the She Reads Truth Bible would be a lovely keepsake gift, especially for a Bible journaler.
