Do you want to encourage your kids to read over the summer? (I hope so! 😃) While there are many ways to encourage a lifelong love for reading, one of the very best is to MAKE IT FUN! Keep it light, keep it pressure-free, and keep it appealing. And for many kids, tapping into their competitive sides with a fun challenge is just the thing to light their reading fire!
It’s also best to keep it as autonomous as possible. Kids read SO MUCH MORE when they’re given the power to choose what they read.
That’s why, rather than give a list of specific books to read this summer, I decided to put together a fun reading challenge that would leave the actual book selections up to your kids. They’ll be able to tailor the following suggestions to their own ages, interests, and reading levels, significantly increasing the chances they’ll love what they’re reading. (But don’t worry… I’ll also give you plenty of book recommendations at the end of the post!)
