One of the best ways to ignite a love of reading in kids is to find books that fan the sparks of their natural interests and curiosities. My kids (and husband) love the outdoors, so books about outdoor survival and adventure have been some of our most beloved family read-alouds. Our family loves our books, oh yes, we do! One of our favorite things to do together as a family is read a few chapters from our current read-aloud. (Here are some of our past favorites!) It’s such a special time of bonding, and I’m super passionate about the many benefits of reading aloud to kids.

While we love cuddling on the couch to read our favorite books, we’re a country family, so we also spend a great deal of time outside. I will admit, I’m a convert to this lifestyle after marrying my outdoorsy husband, so it’s not quite as much in my blood. But my husband and boys love all things outdoor adventure. As a result, many of our favorite family read-alouds center around nature, hunting, and outdoor survival.
