Feeding, bathing, disciplining, nurturing… There are so many important things we do for our kids.
But one of the very best things we can do for them is pray for them. Not just here and there when we feel like it, and not casually, but regularly, consistently, and passionately.
Our kids need our prayers. They need them as they grow and develop godly character, they need them as they face trials and temptations, and they need them as they make decisions big and small. Prayer powerfully impacts all of it.
Prayer is also how we join God in the work He’s doing in their lives. None of us are perfect – we don’t have all the answers, we make a lot of mistakes, and we can’t possibly give our kids everything they need. Thankfully, however, what we do for our kids isn’t nearly as important as what God does for them. How we do our part pales in comparison to how faithful He is in doing His. And prayer is how we partner with Him in that.
That’s why I thought it would be great to do a “Pray for Your Kids Challenge” throughout the month of November. If you want to cultivate a regular practice of praying for your kids, join me in prayer for the next 30 days.
30 Days of Prayer For Your Kids
Prayer works out God’s will in our kids’ lives, fights spiritual battles on their behalf, and helps us entrust them into their Heavenly Father’s hands. It also equips us to raise them in line with God’s priorities for them. It’s one of the best ways we can care for them, and one of the most valuable gifts we can give them.
I LOVE the book The Power of a Praying Mom, by Stormie Omartian.
Because I believe prayer makes such a difference in our kids’ lives, I want to issue a challenge for all of us to pray over a specific area of our kids’ lives each day in the month of November (or whenever you happen to be reading this).
You can follow the prompts and schedule I’ve outlined below, mix it up, or come up with your own! The particulars don’t matter nearly as much as the prayers, themselves. Just pray!
