Do you want a thriving marriage? Of course, you do! But strong marriages don’t happen by accident. They require sacrifice, effort, and lots and lots of prayer!
Prayer is one of the most powerful weapons in any Christian’s arsenal. It is a gift of direct communication with God and a conduit for His work in our lives. Among many other things, it can help us create strong and lasting marriage bonds. We should all be praying for our marriages on a daily basis!
If your spouse doesn’t pray or won’t pray with you, don’t let that stop you! Even if you have to do it alone, continue to fight on your knees in prayer. Trust that God will honor your faithfulness, hear your prayers, and respond to your faith.
Prayer changes our hearts, defends us against the enemy, and produces God’s fruit in our lives. If you want a thriving marriage, if you want to see God’s power in your lives, and if you want Him to transform your hearts and home, here are 10 prayers to strengthen your marriage.
10 Prayers to Strengthen Your Marriage
Lift up your marriage to the Lord and watch His faithfulness in action with these prayers for your marriage.
1. A Prayer of Gratitude
Lord, we thank You for each other and for Your work in our marriage. Open our eyes to the blessings in our union and make us more aware of the goodness of Your guiding hand. May we rejoice always, pray continually, and give thanks in all circumstances, even when we do not feel like doing so.

- Psalm 106:1
- Ephesians 5:20
- Philippians 4:6-7
2. A Prayer for a Christ-Centered Marriage
Father, help us build a Christ-centered marriage. We seek you first above all else, knowing that when we do, You will supply everything else we need. Open our eyes and our hearts to the bigger picture and greater purpose of marriage, to the truth that Your design was not for our personal happiness, but rather a reflection of Your holiness. Search our hearts and motives and reveal where we have built our marriage on anything other than you. Rout out all selfishness and anything else we put before You.

- Genesis 2:18
- Ecclesiastes 4:12
- Ephesians 5:22-24
- Ephesians 5:25-33

3. A Prayer For Healthy Communication
God, I pray for strong and healthy communication in our marriage. Teach us how to communicate thoughtfully and effectively. Open our hearts and minds toward each other, breaking down any dividing walls we have constructed between us. Help us control our tongues to speak with respect and honor, kindness and love. Give us courage to address difficult conversations, and provide the words that will speak to each other’s hearts. May our conversations always be full of grace and seasoned with salt.
- Colossians 4:6
