And with a little help from the bread machine (optional, but extremely handy), they’re a breeze to make!
These herbed rolls would make a perfect addition to your holiday meal, but they’re also an evergreen side that never goes out of style. Serve them alongside your favorite soup, pasta, casserole, or any other dish you have in mind!
Once you’ve made them, you’ll make them again and again…and again.
What You’ll Need
- Bread machine (This is optional. You could mix the dough by hand or in a mixer, if you prefer. I, personally, love the time- and energy-savings of a bread machine, but you do you!)
- Baking sheets
- Parchment paper or silicone mats (optional)
- Dough scraper/cutter (optional, but very helpful for dividing the dough evenly)
- Tea towels
How to Make the BEST Herbed Rolls
Ingredients
- 1 cup warm water
- 2 T butter, softened
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp salt
- 3 ¼ cup bread flour
- ¼ cup sugar
- 3 T potato flakes
- ½ tsp each basil, oregano, thyme, and rosemary (crushed)
- 2 ½ tsp active dry yeast
Directions {Bread Machine}
- Add all ingredients to the bread machine pan in the order specified by the manufacturer. Select dough setting.
- When cycle is complete, turn dough onto a floured surface (I just use my silicone mats). Divide into 16 portions and shape each into a ball. Place 2” apart on greased baking sheets. (Or sheets lined with silicone mats.)
- Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled, about 30 minutes.
- Bake at 375℉ for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
- After baking, brush with a bit of melted butter and sprinkle with coarse salt.
- Remove from baking sheets to wire racks to cool.
Helpful Tips
Use a dough scraper/cutter to easily (and more evenly) divide the dough. First, divide the dough in two and form each half into a ball. Then, use your dough cutter to make 4 intersecting cuts across each ball, creating 16 total dough pieces.
For even baking and browning, rotate your pans halfway through cooking.
Brush and sprinkle one pan at a time to ensure the butter is still wet when you sprinkle the salt.
