I’ve been a fan of podcasts for a long time — I play them in the car, on walks, and while I’m working around the house.
But until recently, I hadn’t thought of listening to them with my kids. Since the shutdown of schools this past spring, however, when I started looking for more screen-free educational activities, the boys and I have been making our way through quite a few podcasts.
And we love them! They love listening to all the entertaining stories and interesting facts, and I love that it provides an opportunity for independent play and learning.

Screen-free activities that are also independent activities?? Double mom win!
(Note: Yes, you have to play the podcast via a device, but your kids don’t need to see or watch the screens, which means their brains and imaginations are actively engaged.)

25 Podcasts for Kids
I’ve broken down this list of podcasts for kids into story podcasts, educational podcasts, Christian podcasts, and miscellaneous podcasts for your convenience, though obviously some could fit in more than one category.
Story Podcasts for Kids
I LOVE reading to my kids (here are some of our favorite read-aloud chapter books), but sometimes Momma needs a break, you know? Or I just want to eat my lunch!
For times when my voice is tired, my mouth is full, or my brain is just plum worn out, it’s great to be able to put on a storytelling podcast and let someone else take over for a while. And my kids go bananas over them!
Here are some favorite story podcasts for kids:
- Circle Round
This podcast with adaptations of folktales from around the world is one of my kids’ absolute favorites! - Story Time
While some of the podcasts in this list are a bit more lengthy, this one has nice, bite-sized stories. Both of my boys enjoyed it. - Stories Podcast: A Bedtime Show for Kids of All Ages
This one is great for building imaginations! It’s filled with fairytale retellings, classic stories, and original works. - Julie’s Library
Beloved children’s books narrated by the lovely Julie Andrews?? Yes, please! - The Reading Bug Adventures
My boys each have their favorites from this list, but they both love this one! We love the music, and the coloring time is a fun addition. - Molly of Denali
My kids love the PBSKids show Molly of Denali, and now there’s a podcast! As I’m writing, there aren’t very many episodes, but we’re hoping for more soon! - What If World
The premise of this one is creative and fun — host Mr. Eric uses questions and story elements sent in by kids to craft wild and zany stories that feed imagination and curiosity. - The Alien Adventures of Finn Caspian
Told in 15-20 minute episodes, this serialized science fiction podcast will have your kids begging for “one more!” - Story Pirates
To be honest, this one was just ok for us. My boys enjoyed listening to a couple of episodes, but they like the other story podcasts in this list better. I’m including it because it came highly recommended, so your kids might love it!
Educational Podcasts for Kids
My kids also love learning interesting new facts, and it never ceases to amaze me what their little sponge brains soak up! For an educational medium that keeps them entertained and that’s not the TV, I turn to these educational podcasts for kids.
Note: I stay near when they listen to the science podcasts. As a Christian family, program content doesn’t always line up with our faith, so I make sure I’m present to hear it and address it. I don’t avoid it, however! It has actually sparked some really great discussions with my oldest child.
- But Why: A Podcast for Curious Kids
The title alone should clue you in that these people know kids! This show covers a wide range of topics, and your kids can even submit their own questions. - Tumble Science Podcasts
Of all the science podcasts in this list, my oldest son liked this one best. - Brains On! Science podcast for kids
This show tackles a wide range of questions and topics, so no matter your kids’ interests, you’re bound to find an episode that appeals to them! - Wow in the World
My 6-year-old liked this one, but it was definitely one I would want to listen to with him, as stated above. Overall, it wasn’t our favorite science podcast, but it is a fun and informative option. - The Past & the Curious
This history podcast is a big-time favorite with my 6-year-old. He loves all the interesting facts and stories from history. - Noodle Loaf
I thought this music podcast was super fun, and so did my preschooler. (My older son, however, was slightly less impressed.) - Smash Boom Best
Geared more towards older kids, this one was a “smashing” hit (har har) with my first-grader. The debate angle is so creative and fun, and I love that it not only offers interesting facts, but also shows how to craft a well-articulated argument (even if that argument is about skunks vs. sharks).
Christian Podcasts for Kids
As we are a Christian family, we also have a list of Christian podcasts for kids we like to play. Here are some of our favorites:
- Truth Seekers: Bible Stories for Kids
I LOVE this one and its premise of “seeking truth.” It is very well done and not only tells Bible stories, but also helps kids draw connections and grasp core truths from God’s Word. - Jesus is Better
While I like the Truth Seekers podcast better, this one is good, too. My kids enjoyed the Bible stories and discussion, but I found the host to be a bit awkward at times. She isn’t quite as smooth or skilled at storytelling and discussion as some of the others. - Kids Bible Stories
This is a nice bite-sized podcast with shorter episodes perfect for morning/bedtime devotions and younger kids. - Adventures in Odyssey
This podcast supplements the AIO show with behind-the-scenes stories, deleted scenes, and fun bonus content. If you have established AIO fans in your house, they’ll LOVE this podcast. But even if you don’t — if you have AIO newbies — there are quite a few full show episodes sprinkled throughout. - Miss Rory’s Story Emporium
This is my 6-year-old’s favorite from this section of the list. The first time I played it for him, we binge-listened to an entire season in one sitting.
Other Podcasts for Kids
Let me round out my list with a few other miscellaneous podcasts.
- Warrior Kid Podcast
My husband, Levon, is a big Jocko fan, so when he learned there was a version for kids, he was all over it! - Dream Big
An ADORABLE mother-daughter tag team interview world-class performers, athletes, business people, and thinkers in this inspiring podcast. I screen this one a bit for my kids and listen with them (a wise idea, in general), but overall I like it, and even some of the content I don’t particularly like serves as a conversation springboard. - Ear Snacks
This is a fun and silly podcast for younger kids. My first-grader wasn’t impressed, but my preschooler loved it. - Mystery Recipe
This one comes from America’s Test Kitchen Kids, and as a hobbyist cook, I enjoyed listening to this one as much as my kids!
