Have you ever lost your cool with your kids? (Who among us hasn’t?) Would your family members ever give you the label ‘Cranky Mom?’
I’ll go first — my answers would be yes and yes.
As much as I strive to be a loving, joyful mom, I morph into ‘Cranky Mom’ more often than I’d like to admit. I try to keep her at bay, but sadly, she is an all too familiar presence in our home.
So when I started seeing notices for The Cranky Mom Fix, I put my name on that preorder list faster than you can even say the word “momster.”
I knew I needed help in this area, and I was filled with hope that this book would provide it.
And it did. In spades.
I read a lot of books for moms, and I generally enjoy each one I read. But every once in a while, I read one that is so helpful and impactful that I just can’t help but share it as much as possible.
The Cranky Mom Fix is one of those books, and this is my honest review.

SUMMARY of The Cranky Mom Fix
From the book cover:
“You want to be a great mom. But does the “Momster” inside you growl and roar at the people you love best?
If we’re honest with ourselves, almost every mom knows she can go from being kind to cranky in no time flat. When we’re tired, busy, anxious, preoccupied–okay, so anytime, really–we tend to default to snapping and barking at our kids. But life doesn’t have to be this way.
Through coaching other moms who share a desire to be a kinder, gentler parent, Becky Kopitzke has learned the keys to taming the “momster” in all of us. And in this grace-filled book, she will help you
- assess the triggers that spark your angry responses
- understand your children better so you can minimize frustrations
- learn gentle, effective responses to trying situations
- and much more
Purchase The Cranky Mom Fix as your personal battle plan to focus on who you are and how to wield God’s wisdom and strength in your family. With an extensive resource section of practical activities, tips, and self-assessment tools, this book will help you reclaim true peace for your soul and your home.”
MY THOUGHTS ON THE CRANKY MOM FIX
This book came along at a perfect time for me. A new baby, a strong-willed toddler, and a boundary-testing preschooler have brought out the “momster” in me more than a few times in the last several weeks. I was in sore need of something to help me deal with my frustration and bring some peace to our days together.
And that something was The Cranky Mom Fix.
I had read (and loved) Becky’s book The SuperMom Myth, so I was expecting good things. But this book blew my expectations out of the water. I’m not exaggerating when I say that it is packed with helpful tips, practical advice, and perspective-shifting wisdom. This book is a must-read for all moms.
From changing the way I view my children’s behavior to helping me identify my triggers to offering Biblical ways to discipline, The Cranky Mom Fix was the perfect addition to my motherhood toolbox.
I won’t pretend that reading this book magically transformed me into a perfectly peaceful mom. I’ve still had cranky days, ugly moments, and yes, even the occasional blow-up since reading it.
But I have noticed a drastic difference in my heart and my attitude toward my kids. It set me on the right path and filled my arsenal with the tools I need to slay the “momster” once and for all.
And it’s so full of powerful content, I know one reading was not enough. This is a book I will want to revisit again and again.
Not only will this book help me deal with my mommy anger, but it will help me forge closer bonds with my kids, invest more fully in our relationships, and point them to Jesus.
And I believe it will do the same for you.
FAVORITE QUOTES FROM THE CRANKY MOM FIX
Our faulty hearts would have us believe feeling cranky requires acting cranky. We think we have no choice. But we do.
Our true end goal should be to show them the better choice… and equip them to grasp it. This requires approaching every infraction as an opportunity to train our children toward godly character….
Many of us moms are in the seed planting stage. Some days we can’t see anything but a mound of dirt. Yet God is giving life to those seeds beneath the surface. As our children grow, we’ll detect sprouts, and we’ll continue to water and weed. Then one day, I pray our sons and daughters will stand tall, beautiful, and unwavering as sunflowers because they’ll be rooted in the soil we tilled with our own sweat and prayers, nourished by the shining rays of God’s grace.
Be a shepherd, not a cattle prod.
Our children can’t enjoy our company if they feel in constant danger of scolding or judgment.
Training focuses on improving a behavior or properly channeling an emotion. Shaming simply says, “There’s something wrong with you as a person.”
The mom who loves like Jesus will remember that she is a sinner, too, and she will treat her kids with the same forgiving kindness that our heavenly Father grants us all.
God doesn’t ask us to raise flawless children. He wants faithful children.
Understanding now that your child is a unique person crafted by God on purpose and for a purpose, a mother’s job becomes unearthing just who that person is—and inviting him or her to flourish.
