Some people binge-watch shows. Well, I binge-read authors.
Once I find an author I enjoy, I tend to go through their books in fairly quick succession. Such is the case with Roseanna M. White, and fortunately for me, she recently came out with a new book, The Number of Love.
The first book in her new Codebreakers series, The Number of Love follows the story of Margot De Wilde, a character we first met (and loved) in A Song Unheard. And while I’ve enjoyed every one of Roseanna’s books I’ve read, this one earns a spot on my top favorites list.
**Disclosure: I received a complimentary copy of the book from the publisher as part of her book launch team.**
SUMMARY
Here is the official book blurb:
“Three years into the Great War, England’s greatest asset is their intelligence network–field agents risking their lives to gather information, and codebreakers able to crack German telegrams for hints of the enemy’s plans. Margot De Wilde thrives in the environment of the secretive Room 40, where she spends her days deciphering intercepted messages. But when her world is turned upside down by an unexpected loss, for the first time in her life numbers aren’t enough.
Drake Elton returns wounded from the field, followed by an enemy who just won’t give up. He’s smitten quickly by the quick and brainy Margot, but soon the dangers of the war draw ever closer. Margot and Drake will have to team up to save themselves from the very secrets that brought them together.”
MY THOUGHTS
I absolutely loved this book. In fact, I think this might be my favorite of Roseanna’s I’ve read so far (and I’ve hit almost all of them now).
Of course, the math nerd in me was immediately drawn to Margot’s codebreaking and penchant for thinking in numbers. But the history enthusiast in me also enjoyed the peek into WWII military intelligence, and OF COURSE the romantic in me loved Margot and Drake’s story.
All of Roseanna’s books have engaging plot lines — these aren’t just fluffy romance stories — but she reached a whole new level with this one. The storylines were intriguing and well-developed, the pace was perfect, and the writing was superb (as usual). And as much as I enjoy all of her books, this one had even more depth and intrigue.
I also loved that she brought in characters from some of her other series. Though this is the first book in a new series and can certainly be read on its own, for those of us who have read her Ladies of the Manor and Shadows Over England series, it was a fun incorporation. Like a reunion with old friends.
If you enjoy well-written (i.e. non-cheesy) Christian fiction with a bit of history and a splash of romance, then Roseanna’s your girl and The Number of Love is a must-read.
AUTHOR BIO
Roseanna M. White is a bestselling, Christy Award-nominated author who has long claimed that words are the air she breathes. When not writing fiction, she’s homeschooling her two kids, editing, designing book covers, and pretending her house will clean itself. Roseanna is the author of a slew of historical novels that span several continents and thousands of years. Spies and war and mayhem always seem to find their way into her books…to offset her real life, which is blessedly ordinary. You can learn more about her and her stories at www.RoseannaMWhite.com.
