Making hard-boiled eggs used to be a bit of a crapshoot. Rarely did I get the timing just right, and more often than not, I ended up with overcooked eggs. Not ideal.
And peeling them? Oh my goodness, I hated peeling eggs. Picking 100 tiny pieces off a rubbery egg is not my idea of a good time.
And let me tell you — I tried all the so-called “easy peel” tricks and methods. None of them produced the results I wanted.
Until… the Instant Pot.
Now I have a truly fail-proof method for cooking hard-boiled eggs that peel like a dream.
How to Make Hard-Boiled Eggs in the Instant Pot
- Put a trivet in the bottom of the Instant Pot (I have this 6qt and this 8qt Instant Pot)
- Pour 1 cup of water in the bottom.
- Place eggs on the trivet. (As many as you want, and you can stack them.)
- Set on Manual (high pressure) for 5 minutes.
- After the cooking is complete, allow a natural release for 5 minutes.
- Remove the eggs to a bowl of ice water to stop the cooking.
- Peel the eggs (they’re easiest to peel if you peel them right away) and enjoy or store in the fridge for later.
Pro Tip:
You may have an egg or two crack while cooking. That’s okay! They’re still safe to eat. If it bothers you, however, bring the eggs to room temperature before cooking. That should prevent them from cracking in the Instant Pot.
