I have always been a pretty self-motivated, goal-oriented person. In school, especially, I set high goals and worked hard to achieve them. In my adult life, I have continued to set goals and have been determined to meet them.
But I can get so driven and focused on my goals … that I forget to invite God into them.
Pretty soon, everything starts to revolve around my goals, my plans, my efforts, and I squeeze out the One who put it all into motion in the first place. The One who blessed me with my children, the One who created me with talents and abilities, and the One who put those desires and passions in my heart.
Even pursuits that start out as obediently following a directive from the Lord, such as when I opened my heart to becoming a mother or when I started this blog, can morph into something else entirely. Something that is more about my own pleasure, my own self-esteem and self-worth, and my own achievements. I begin to work out my goals out of my own strength and ideas rather than following His leading and wisdom.
I realized I was once again falling into this trap a couple months ago. Blogging, homemaking, and motherhood, in particular, had become more about accomplishing my goals than furthering His Kingdom. I knew this would be a constant, daily battle.
To help me remember Who should be in charge, directing my steps, I compiled a collection of Scriptures and prayers to dedicate each day to the Lord.
I hope they help you, as they have helped me, maintain focus on the Author of your life and the One who can order your steps better than anyone here on earth.
Prayers to Dedicate Each Day
Order my steps, Lord, that I will go where you want me to go and do what you want me to do.
Give me the wisdom to set correct priorities and the discipline to manage my time accordingly.
Help me accept and embrace divine interruptions. (I need LOTS of help with this one!)
Fill my heart with your plans so that they may succeed. I seek Your will over my desires and plans.
Create in me a clean heart with pure motives for the work that I will do today.
Help me view motherhood and managing my home in light of Your Kingdom and Glory.

This is great! Thanks for your honesty and perspective. Living for his values and kingdom is infinitely better but I often forget that.
I’m glad you enjoyed it, Cathy, and I completely agree that living for Him is better than living for myself.
