October is coming to a close, and I have found some great reads for you this month! In this installment of my Fabulous Finds series you’ll find a super simple pumpkin bread recipe, tips for breaking the urge to spend, important parenting advice, and encouragement for homemaking and motherhood.
Enjoy!
October’s Fabulous Finds!
- Recipe: The Easiest {Two Ingredient} Pumpkin Bread | Annie’s Aprons
After I had kids and life got a lot busier, I really came to appreciate recipes with only a few ingredients. Well, you can’t get any simpler than two ingredients! I’ve been itching to bake something “fall-ish.” With a toddler and a newborn now, this is a very feasible option for me!
(Psst … enjoy your pumpkin bread with some delicious homemade applesauce that’s a cinch to make!)
- Motherhood: I Held You Too Long Today | Memoirs of a Working Mom
Oh my, you have to read this poem by Shannon at Memoirs of a Working Mom. It is beautiful and such a good reminder for moms. I read it in the first couple weeks after Andrew’s birth, and it was as if her words were written just for me! It was so beautiful I had to share it with my husband, but by the end I had to read through tears because I couldn’t stop crying. Of course, some of that might have been new mom hormones ;), but it really is a must-read!

- Finance Tip: How to Kick Your Spending Triggers to the Curb | High Fiving Dollars
I like this post a lot because it goes beyond just telling people to “stop spending money.” Financial success requires some plain ol’ tough self-discipline sometimes, but figuring out why and when you spend can help you develop that discipline. Sarah’s post has some great introspective questions to ask yourself and practical advice for overcoming your urges to spend. If you find yourself regularly spending money you know you shouldn’t, this will be a valuable resource for you!
- Homemaking: 10 Tips for Getting Back to Intentional Homemaking | Creative Home Keeper
If you’ve been living in survival mode and you’re tired of the craziness, you will benefit greatly from this post from Victoria at Creative Home Keeper. It is full of encouraging and practical advice for establishing and maintaining intentional homemaking. I’ve been adjusting to life with two kids, and I found her 10 tips very helpful!
Do you struggle with the idea or art of homemaking?
- Read about what “homemaking” really means (hint: it’s more than just cleaning!)
- Discover new ways to make housework more enjoyable!
- Learn how I turn ordinary tasks into quality time with my son.
- Parenting: 12 Things Your Child Should Know Before Staying Home Alone | Our Three Peas
Aidan is two and nowhere close to being ready to stay home by himself, but I’m saving this for future reference! If you’re not sure if your child is ready, this post contained some really good questions to ask yourself as a guide. Once you’ve determined that your child is ready to stay home alone, use this list as a checklist of things to cover with him/her. This is a very comprehensive list and will give both you and your child better peace of mind.
Thanks for joining me! If you found any of the posts in my list particularly helpful, let me know. I’d love to hear how my Fabulous Finds are helping you!

Thanks Melissa!
Lisa, let me just say how adorable your kids are! I really loved the recipe for the pumpkin cake. I am a huge fan of all things “spice” so I will definitely be trying this variation very soon. I also enjoyed reading your advice about letting children stay home alone. My little guy is still too young but I’m sure these will come in handy for when the time comes.
Thank you Innana!
