It was written for women who are tired of feeling like they’re always running with little to show for it. Women who are spinning in circles with no direction. Women who feel stuck in their responsibilities and to-do lists. Is that you? I know it has been me at various times!
With transparency and compassion, Crystal offers very straightforward and practical advice to help women manage their time, energy, and resources in such a way that will enable them to live life on purpose, rather than merely survive. In the book, she helps readers figure out their “best stuff” and how to prioritize those areas in their lives. She teaches them how to effectively set goals and achieve those goals. She writes about how to be intentional with money. She helps readers manage their homes more efficiently, so they can focus their time and energy on their “best stuff.” And she offers valuable encouragement for when they feel like they’re not good enough.
I thought this book was great. If I hadn’t already been on a quest to live more intentionally, and if I hadn’t already read and listened to so much of Crystal’s advice already, this book would have been life-changing. I am sure it will be life-changing to a lot of women who read it.
Although much of it was not new information to me, I still thoroughly enjoyed it and got a lot out of it. I found going through the exercises from chapters 1 and 2 of writing down my personal priorities and best stuff list very beneficial. Though I have read similar advice in books like Lysa TerKeurst’s The Best Yes, actually writing them down was very helpful to me.
My other favorite chapter was Chapter 6: “Manage the Home Front.” I starred and underlined a lot in this chapter! It was full of really functional advice about home management, something that I am always seeking to learn more about. I find I am much more at peace the more I can simplify and organize our home, so I loved learning more tips and tricks to do that!
Say Goodbye to Survival Mode is a book I would recommend to any mom, especially to one who feels as though her daily life lacks purpose (and what mom hasn’t at some point?). It isn’t just a book of inspiration and encouragement (although those are good, too). One of my favorite things about the book is that each chapter concludes with a “Get Practical” section with concrete steps to help readers master the strategies discussed in that chapter. I also like knowing that these aren’t just ideas to fill a book. They are tried and true advice from a woman who has been in your shoes and found her way out to a life of passionate purpose.
